Manufacturing Engineering Support

Manufacturing Engineering can be categorized as four basic functional areas:

1. MANUFACTURING PLANNING: This is the preliminary engineering work regarding the establishment of a manufacturing system for the production of products. Manufacturing Planning includes the selection and specification of the necessary facilities, equipment, and tools, as well as the plant layout to provide the most efficient operation.

2. MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS: This is the engineering work involved in the routine functioning of an existing plant or facility to provide efficient, economical and quality production standards. Manufacturing Operations include the improvement of existing layouts, procedures, tooling, product plans and specifications.

3. MANUFACTURING RESEARCH: This is the pursuit of new and better materials, methods, tools and procedures to improve manufacturing processes and reduce costs. Manufacturing Research includes the creation of concepts and innovative use of existing items.

4. MANUFACTURING CONTROL: This is the management of manufacturing operations to assure compliance to required schedules. It includes coordination of manufacturing departments as well as other supporting departments, such as purchasing and materials.

  • Maintenance of production control to assure compliance with scheduling.

  • Understanding current and potential problems and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to eliminate them.

  • Economic studies related to the feasibility of acquiring new tools, machinery and equipment.

  • Domestic and Low Cost Country (LCC) supplier selection

  • Reducing cost by transferring some or all of client's manufacturing operations to high quality / low-cost offshore plants in Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe.
