PCB Designs for space, military, medical and commercial applications

Instrumentation Engineering

Instrumentation engineering focuses on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in design and configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic domains etc. Our instrumentation engineers have experience working for industries with automated processes, such as chemical, metallurgical, automotive, machine building plants, with the goal of improving system productivity, reliability, safety, optimization, and stability. To control the parameters in a process or in an industrial system, devices such as microprocessors, microcontrollers or PLCs are used. Typical duties assigned to our instrumentation engineers are the selection of appropriate sensors based on size & weight, reliability, accuracy, frequency response, longevity, environmental robustness, and cost. Sensor data must be recorded, transmitted or displayed. Recording rates and transmission capacities vary enormously. Displays can be either very simple or can require consultation with human factors experts. Control system design varies from trivial to a specialty.

Typical responsibilities of our instrumentation engineers are integration of the sensors with the recorders, transmitters, displays or control systems, and producing the piping and instrumentation diagram for the processes, designing and specifying installation, wiring and signal conditioning; calibration, testing and maintenance of the system.  AGS-Engineering team of instrumentation engineering experts can design and oversee the implementation of a turnkey solution for your projects, from concept to completion, for any size of control system. We are dedicated to providing flexible solutions to fit your needs. Some typical areas of expertise and tasks we can accept are:

  • Engineering expertise in instrumentation, SCADA systems, building automation. Complete design and build option for your next building automation.

  • Process control systems: Complete design and build option for your next industrial control systems project - during every stage of the process, such as assessment of needs and requirements, design & build of equipment, installation and training of personnel, future expansion…etc. If you prefer, we offer turn-key process control projects.

  • Design, assembly, installation and commissioning of custom built control panels (CSA, UL or ETL certification if needed) for industrial and commercial applications. We can provide complete engineering of your enclosures with full documentation and components from reputable manufacturers, ongoing service and maintenance if required.

By using our design and build services, you will deal with one company instead of several (i.e. consultants, systems integrator, contractors, manufacturers…etc.). With this comes a clear sense of singular accountability – something that is all too often missing in a project. When multiple providers are involved in a single project the chances of failure increase and the work can become confusing and stressful. Multiple vendors will typically cover-off and consider only their portion of the project, and are less likely to fully consider the big picture. Our team members are experts at instrumentation engineering and systems integration. Whether you require a whole new system or integration with your current system, the combination of our engineering services can provide you with a complete and custom turn-key solution. Everything from engineering, building, installation, integration and ongoing maintenance is available through us.

PCB & PCBA DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

A printed circuit board, or briefly denoted as PCB, is used to mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive pathways, tracks, or traces, etched commonly from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. A PCB populated with electronic components is a printed circuit assembly (PCA), also known as a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). The term PCB is often used informally for both bare and assembled boards. PCBs are sometimes single sided (meaning they have one conductive layer), sometimes double sided (meaning they have two conductive layers) and sometimes they come as multi-layer structures (with outer and inner layers of conductive paths). To be more explicit, in these multi-layer printed circuit boards, multiple layers of material are laminated together. PCBs are inexpensive, and can be highly reliable. They require much more layout effort and higher initial cost than either wire-wrapped or point-to-point constructed circuits, but are much cheaper and faster for high-volume production. Much of the electronics industry's PCB design, assembly, and quality control needs are set by standards that are published by the IPC organization.

We have engineers specialized in PCB & PCBA design & development and testing. If you have a project you would like us to evaluate, contact us. We will take into consideration available space in your electronic system and use the most suitable EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools available to create the schematic capture. Our experienced designers will place the components and heat sinks in the most suitable locations on your PCB. We can either create board from schematic and then create the GERBER FILES for you or we can use your Gerber files to manufacture the PCB boards and verify their operation. We are flexible, so depending on what you have available and what you need done by us, we will do it accordingly. As some manufacturers require it, we create the Excellon file format too for specifying drill holes. Some of the EDA tools we use are:

  • EAGLE PCB design software

  • KiCad

  • Protel

AGS-Engineering has the tools and knowledge to design your PCB no matter how large or small.

We use the industry’s top tier design tools and are driven to be the best.

If you are not yet at the PCB & PCBA design phase, but need the schematics of the electronic circuits, we are here to help you. See our other menus such as analog and digital design to learn more about what we can do for you. So, if you need the schematics first, we can prepare them and then transfer your schematic diagram into a drawing of your printed circuit board and subsequently create the Gerber files.
